Don’t Forget to Vote!
Where we used to live, voting was super-convenient. We didn’t have to worry about driving or parking. All we did was walk across the street and down two doors. Our current polling place is at the local Baptist church. It’s maybe a mile away, so we drive there. The driveway confuses people, so they wind up in a little dead end, and there seems to always be a car stuck there, carefully turning around. We park out on the street.
In spite of the news about difficulty voting in various places, we had a pleasant time of it. The sweetest people in town work at our polls. There’s a feeling of shared, hushed reverence for the act of voting. No challenges, no threats. They were busier than usual, today.
This time we used the ink-in-the-oval method of voting. It only takes a little longer than the chad type of ballot, and provides a reliable paper trail. The ballots are heavy, sturdy paper, so if a recount is necessary, they should hold up fine, and there are no chads to hang. I like this method. Why do we need anything more digital than this? If it works, don’t fix it.
