Cornered
Dream a few nights ago: As I crossed a parking lot to my car, a lion followed me. I knew the lion was powerful, yet I also knew he wouldn’t kill me. He bit my hand, at one point, but it was a pet cat kind of bite, not hard, just a warning. I had the impression he was chasing me back to my motivation. Get back to your writing!
I’d taken time off to work on other things. Computer art, drawing, looking at image after image of paintings I found on-line.
I finally realized today that I was stuck in my writing project. I’d written myself into a corner, and the ink wasn’t drying. I mentioned this to my husband and he came up with such a simple answer. Re-read what I’ve written so far. I’m still on the first draft, and I don’t like to go back over and start editing while I’m still writing the rough, so this hadn’t even entered my mind. Of course, it will help me get back on track, back into the proper flow and direction of the story. I’ve started this afternoon, reading without editing.
He said if I got all the way to the end and was still stuck he’d read it and tell me what to do (how to end the story). I laughed. He knows very well, by then I’ll have found my way again. But I would be interested in knowing how he’d end it.
