Daydreamer
I thought today about Halloween costumes for children, because of a chapter I’m writing.
I recall when I was in first grade, and the teacher mentioned Halloween costumes, then went on to talk about a play or skit the class was to participate in. She asked what parts we wanted to play. Meanwhile I drifted off into dreamland, thinking of how I wanted to dress up for Halloween. When it came my turn and the teacher asked me what I wanted to be I gleefully said, “A strawberry,” which had nothing to do with the question.
I didn’t understand the other kids’ laughter for a moment. I even recall the teacher sort of screwing up her face in an attempt not to laugh.
This is a perfect description of me as a kid, and frequently as an adult. Off in my own little world.
