I don’t do resolutions anymore, but this list intrigues me. I read many of these books last year, and who knows, I might read the rest this year….
I’m cheating and listing some of my reading in 2014 that I think fits the list with a promise that maybe I’ll fill in the holes in 2015 - I know I’ll be reading lots.
1) A book you own but haven’t read - maybe in 2015 - there are quite a few of these to choose from.
2) A book that was made into a movie - Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brien - actually the movie was not just from this book but combined elements from a few in the series - sill the title is the same.
3) A book you pick solely because of the cover - Abby Spencer Goes to Bollywood by Varsha Bajaj - the cover definitely drew me in, and I enjoyed this YA book a lot more than I expected.
4) A book your friend loves - The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett - several friends recommended over time and I’m glad I finally listened.
5) A book published this year - I’m looking forward to see what’s new in books this year.
6) A book by an author you’ve never read before - I read LOTS of these in 2014 and I’m sure I’ll read lots more in 2015.
7) A book by an author you love - I read many books by Anne McCaffrey in 2014, some I hadn’t read before.
8 ) A book at the bottom of your “to-be-read” pile - 2BR02B by Kurt Vonnegut.
9) A book with a color in the title - A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle.
10) A book set somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit - Fluency by Jennifer Foehner Wells - set in space, and I’ve always been fascinated with outer space and yes, a big part of me would love to go there, although I never will - isn’t it nice we can visit such places in books? The Sweetness of Forgetting by Kristen Harmel took me to Paris, which was nice.
11) A book you started but never finished - She by Robert A. Johnson - a Jungian exploration of the feminine psyche - I finally went back and finished, and I’m not sure why I didn’t finish it before, as it’s a short book - I must have been interrupted.
12) A book with a lion. A witch. Or a wardrobe - A Thousand Perfect Things by Kay Kenyon - if statues of lions that come to life through magic count.
13) A book with a female heroine - Wool, Shift and Dust by Hugh Howey - Juliette is one of my favorite female protagonists yet - but I read lots of books with strong female protagonists this past year, and I think more are being written now than in the past, which makes me happy.
14) A book set in the summer - yes, but if I tell you which book, it will give away the ending, because that was part of the outcome of the book.
15) A book of poems - maybe in 2015 - I have read books of poems before and I’m sure I will again - I recently downloaded A Celtic Twilight, and I love Yeats.
16) A book you learned about because of this challenge - I’m sure having done this will inspire something in 2015.
17) A book that will make you smarter - hm…
18) A book with a blue cover - A Course In Miracles - finished reading the text portion in 2014. I have another book with a blue cover that I hope to get around to in 2015.
19) A book you were supposed to read in school but didn’t - please don’t tell me I have to read Moby Dick in 2015? Well, okay, maybe….
20) A book “everyone” but you has read - The Alchemist by Paul Coelho.
21) A book with a great first line - none that I recall, but I don’t pay that much attention to first lines - the whole book needs to be good for me to enjoy it - Anna Karenina has a purportedly “great” first line - perhaps I’ll finally finish reading that in 2015. I started it on jury duty years ago and never finished.
22) A book with pictures - Knitting Brioche: The Essential Guide to the Brioche Stitch by Nancy Marchant.
23) A book from the library - Does Kindle Unlimited count? It sure saves me some money - several books I read toward the end of 2014 were borrowed from there.
24) A book you loved - read it again! - The Pern books by Anne McCaffrey - some I had read before numerous times, and some were new to me.
25) A book that is more than 10 years old - A Mysterious Affair At Styles by Agatha Christie.
26) A book based on a true story - Don Quixote in China: The Search for Peach Blossom Spring by Dean Barrett - so funny, and it was based on his real travels in China.
I hope to update the software for this blog this year, so it will no longer be “broken”. I’m very sorry about that.
