Rain-but where’s the cloud?

I spent the last five minutes trying to figure out which cloud this afternoon sprinkle is coming from. The sky’s been blue all day, the sun shining. For the last ten minutes we’ve had a steady sprinkle, and there’s no cloud directly above us. Rain slants down from a clear patch of blue, with no discernible source. I’m sure it’s blowing down from one of the clouds that hover at the fringes of the sky.

UPDATE 2 Hrs Later
Found the clouds, thunder, lightning, and a lot more rain!

A couple times we’ve had rain on one side of the house and sun on the other which is an interesting effect!

  2. Barbara says:

Freaky weather fascinates me. Except when all the digital clocks in the house begin flashing the dreaded **12:00**.

  3. Reenie says:

My husband came home early the evening of THE storm. He had bartered a 10’ metal, Iowa-made windmill for our backyard. I waved my arms furiously, looking much like a windmill myself as he strode across the yard, balancing the structure on his shoulders. He was so excited about his acquisition, he had no awareness that he was a potential lightening rod with the storm gathering and thunder announcing the imminent appearance of lightening. Arghhhh.

  4. Barbara says:

Ooh, I’m glad he made it through the storm unscathed, Reenie.

My family and I came close to being struck while camping, many years ago. We pulled into one camping spot, but my dad had a funny feeling about it, so he parked across the road instead. My mom, sister, brother and I went for a walk, but it started to rain and thunder, so we returned to the camper. Less than five minutes later, with a blinding white flash and ear-splitting noise, lightning struck a tree right across the road, in the spot we were originally going to park. Our ears rang for hours, and we were all pretty shaken.

Even after that, I still get a thrill during a thunderstorm. I guess I’m just a little nutty for weather. In a storm like we had the other night I like to turn off the lights in the house and open the blinds to watch.
