Tomorrow is the vernal equinox, and that’s a little hard for me to believe right now. We’re used to getting May Gray and June Gloom here near the coast of Southern California, because of the coastal eddies. But this winter has hit us harder and later than usual. It doesn’t appear to want to leave yet. There was snow in the mountains just last week. Up the street, someone’s irises started to bloom a few days ago, but they shriveled over one cold night. Now they prepare to bloom again. Will they?
The cat still scrunches up against the wall heater each morning and evening, and she chases patches of sunlight coming in the windows during the day. A couple of days ago I watched her pat a bright spot on the carpet with a paw, then lie down on it, fur fluffed out. She’s an older cat, so perhaps she dramatizes the situation. Maybe I do, too. But this doesn’t feel like the day before spring to me. Not at all. We had a cold rain late in the day, with the clouds parting toward sunset. Maybe tomorrow will convince me. How’s the weather in your part of the world?
Today we’re having snow squalls. I’m planning on going to the grocery tomorrow but as darkness descended the ground was white and the temperature had already fallen below freezing, so who knows. Spring is going to start cold.
We had a lovely 50ish sunny day here, but the nights are frosty and in the very low 30’s. We are thinking it is colder than usual here, too…it’s far from springish…
It’s brightly sunny here — or was, since it’s nearing evening now — but freezing cold. It’s probably in the upper 20s if you don’t count the wind chill. Here in Maine, we’re used to getting wildly variable weather in this season. At least it isn’t snowing.
BTW, they do make galoshes for doggies, but I’m not sure I can stand the idea of playing dress-up with my dogs, even the girl puppy. I might change my mind when we start going to dog shows and she starts needing to keep her feet clean on wet ground.
It’s still blustery here in So. Cal. today, just not as wet. I think December fooled us, with the weeks of warm, dry weather.
Australia suffered a huge cyclone named Larry, reminiscent of Katrina—thankfully without the number of casualties, but it’s left many people homeless.
We had gorgeous weather yesterday and today it was rainy and cold…so schizophrenic here…
And I talked to my friend in England today, and she was saying that it was a colder-than-usual winter, but they have hardly had any rain. She said the fields are yellow, instead of the usual vibrant green.
Weird.
